What’s the safest, nicest and cheapest tropical or sub-tropical place to buy beach property?

I’ve been looking for a couple of years. Costa Rica was great but is now getting very expensive. I like that it doesn’t get hurricanes, too. I prefer the Americas but if there’s another beautiful, safe spot I’d think about it. Any suggestions?

Costa Rica is about as cheap as it gets. If you can’t afford that you might want to rethink your plans.

Several people that I know are buying in Panama, I have heard it is nice, but I have never been there.
